Stations of the Cross – Guided by Glory

Guided by Glory Stations of the Cross.pngThis is my version of the stations of the cross, and is based on the ones I read over here! These are for teens and young adults generally, but can be used by anyone! 🙂 Have a nice time meditating on the stations!

1st Station – Jesus is Condemned to Death

Leader: Jesus is condemned to death.
All: Holy Jesus, we cry out to you.
Leader: Jesus, you held your head above the crowds who did nothing to stop your death. Their faces were hateful, and even the children scorned you. Your prayers for their hearts to be forgiven were silent, but so loud in your mind. Pilate yelled your sentence, and yet no one came forward from the mass that Satan sent.
All: Lord, when we look at each of these stations, we feel the pain you felt. We can empathize in our own ways, but most of all in the fact that you were human, just like us. The next time we hastily judge someone, or begin to condemn them for their actions, we will stop to think about what you would say, and how you would feel in their shoes.
All: Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be….
Leader: Jesus is condemned to death.
All: Have mercy on our souls. Amen.

2nd Station – Jesus Bears the Cross

Leader: Jesus bears the cross.
All: Holy Jesus, we cry out to you.
Leader: Jesus, the cross fell across your shoulders and laid across the whip’s marks. Your muscles ached under the heavy burden, and your sandals slipped in the sand, but you did not yet fall. You carried every sin we would ever commit, and in our name you bore the dreadful, deadly symbol.
All: Lord, you cared for us so much that you took our eternal pains. In every step to Calvary, you suffered for mankind. When we must bear the crosses we are called to, we will remember your tormented body underneath our true death. Thank you Lord, for all you have done.
All: Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…
Leader: Jesus bears the cross.
All: Have mercy on our souls. Amen.

3rd Station – Jesus Falls for the First Time

Leader: Jesus falls for the first time.
All: Holy Jesus, we cry out to you.
Leader: Jesus, the dirt beneath your feet became like water, and your cross weighed down on you. You fell onto the rock-ridden soil, and the angels cried above you. You pushed yourself up off of the ground, for us. Looking to the crowd, you knew this was for them, and for future generations.
All: Lord, you were our only hope, and you could have left us. But you stole away from the devil, and chose pain over earthly glory. Whenever we fall into the traps of sin, we will look to you, and know that we can stand back up with your righteous hand. You have walked our paths, and know our way.
All: Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…
Leader: Jesus falls for the first time.
All: Have mercy on our souls. Amen.

4th Station – Jesus Meets His Mother

Leader: Jesus meets His mother.
All: Holy Jesus, we cry out to you.
Leader: Jesus, she was sobbing, but you could still see her soft face. The tears made her hands shine, and in them you saw her sadness. You clasped her delicate fingers, and without words, you told her all. What this was for, how many people you would save with just one day’s worth of torture. You let go, and she collapsed into the crowd.
All: Lord, your mother knew she would suffer seven sorrows, and still she gave birth to you so that we all could live to love you. Whenever we see a mother in mourning, who has experienced the terrible moment of having to bury her own child, we will offer our consolations, and hold them like you would.
All: Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…
Leader: Jesus meets His mother.
All: Have mercy on our souls. Amen.

5th Station – Simon Helps Carry Jesus’ Cross

Leader: Simon helps carry Jesus’ cross.
All: Holy Jesus, we cry out to you.
Leader: Jesus, his hands appeared out of nowhere. They lifted the cross from your back, and a cool rush of wind flitted around you. Simon was not wearing a crown of thorns, and his voice was not of God. But he was your saviour sent from the King of Heaven in that moment. He was a helping hand that you desperately needed.
All: Lord, you were broken and hurting, and Simon was there to help you. When we see those in need, we will extend our own hands as yours, and carry their cross for a while. For we never know who they are, if they are your host of heavenly angels, or you instilled in their heart.
All: Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…
Leader: Simon helps carry Jesus’ cross.
All: Have mercy on our souls. Amen.

6th Station – Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus

Leader: Veronica wipes the face of Jesus.
All: Holy Jesus, we cry out to you.
Leader: Jesus, she had soft eyes, and a soft cloth. They appeared to be the only soft things in the whole world at that moment. You knelt at her feet as she wiped away the blood gathered on your face, and the sweat streaming down your forehead. You thank her with a smile, and the tears on her face remind you of your mother.
All: Lord, when we see those who need a helping hand, or a kind gesture, we will be quick to aid them. We will do as Veronica did for you, and share our love. Help us be like her, and do what we can for those around us.
All: Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…
Leader: Veronica wipes the face of Jesus.
All: Have mercy on our souls. Amen.

7th Station – Jesus Falls a Second Time

Leader: Jesus falls a second time.
All: Holy Jesus, we cry out to you.
Leader: Jesus, there is laughter all around you as you slam into the ground, much harder this time. The cross bangs against your head, making your nose bleed. You cry out to the crowd, praying for them and their families. Is this, you wonder, not the end?
All: Lord, where our ancestors failed you, we will not. We will fight for those who are punished for their faith in you. Our love will spread to the ends of the Earth, and will dwell wherever you walk with us.
All: Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…
Leader: Jesus falls a second time.
All: Have mercy on our souls. Amen.

8th Station – Jesus Meets the Women of Jerusalem

Leader: Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem.
All: Holy Jesus, we cry out to you.
Leader: Jesus, you spot them, only a few yards ahead of you. They are a group of women, all weeping for you. When you stop you remind them that they need not cry for you, but for themselves; without repentance, no one will be saved. With an comforting smile, you go back to climbing the road to death.
All: Lord, as we remember your death, we tend to act like the women of Jerusalem: we are saddened by what you have done for us, but forget that you would have us grieve for the dead who are tortured in Hell, and those who will go there. When we think of your grief, we will grieve with you.
All: Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…
Leader: Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem.
All: Have mercy on our souls. Amen.

9th Station – Jesus Falls a Third Time

Leader: Jesus falls a third time.
All: Holy Jesus, we cry out to you.
Leader: Jesus, when you fall this time, the guards yell and try to force you to stand. But you have felt the pains of having gone so far, and it is a difficult journey. You kneel and say a prayer, and with renewed strength, you stand again, turning to God in your heart.
All: Lord, when we fall and feel we cannot stand, we will turn to you, and to your father. Our prayers will be heard, we know, and we will be strengthened. Your love and support is all we need to get through the tough times.
All: Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…
Leader: Jesus falls a third time.
All: Have mercy on our souls. Amen.

10th Station – Jesus is Stripped of His Garments

Leader: Jesus is stripped of His garments.
All: Holy Jesus, we cry out to you.
Leader: Jesus, they took from you the last earthly thing you had. You stood naked in front of the crowd, and still your heavenly dignity remained. As they prepared to crucify you, there was silence on that hill.
All: Lord, our trials are nothing compared to what you faced. We know that your humiliation by the soldiers was a part of your teachings for us: no one can take away God from our hearts, even when they pierce us with their words, or take our belongings.
All: Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…
Leader: Jesus is stripped of His garments.
All: Have mercy on our souls. Amen.

11th Station – Jesus is Nailed to the Cross

Leader: Jesus is nailed to the cross.
All: Holy Jesus, we cry out to you.
Leader: Jesus, your whole body was a sore muscle, and they took your pain and multiplied it by Hell’s wishes. The nails were driven through your beautiful palms, through your blessed feet. When the blood poured down, your sacrifice was made known, and God the father Almighty wept in Heaven.
All: Lord, your wounds are our own; you took them from us, you stole away our death so that we might live with you in Heaven. As you were uplifted on the cross, we were saved. With love, you allowed yourself to be crucified. We love you, Jesus.
All: Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…
Leader: Jesus is nailed to the cross.
All: Have mercy on our souls. Amen.

12th Station – Jesus Dies on the Cross

Leader: Jesus dies on the cross.
All: Holy Jesus, we cry out to you.
Leader: Jesus, all you thought about on the cross were the souls of those who were killing you. You prayed unceasingly for them, for their families and friends. When they mocked and scorned you, you asked God to change their hardened hearts. You were praying even till your last breath, at which your mother screamed out, and the Father knew it was done.
All: Lord, we will pray as you did, unceasingly, and for those who hurt us. We will learn to love and care for your people, us, as you did and still do. We will hold onto hope that they will be converted and their souls will rest with ours in Heaven.
All: Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…
Leader: Jesus dies on the cross.
All: Have mercy on our souls. Amen.

13th Station – Jesus’ Body is Taken Down From the Cross

Leader: Jesus’ body is taken down from the cross.
All: Holy Jesus, we cry out to you.
Leader: Jesus, your soul had gone. But there, remaining on the cross, was your holy, now marred, body. Mary took it in her arms, and held it tightly. This, she knew, is not where you were. But you had been here, only a little while ago. She mourned for you with a loud voice, and many tears.
All: Lord, we should mourn as Mary did. We should feel as deeply your death, and cry as meaningfully. Let our tears be real, and for your sacrifice. We will continue to understand and appreciate your sacrifice, even when we die and are in Heaven with you.
All: Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…
Leader: Jesus’ body is taken down from the cross.
All: Have mercy on our souls. Amen.

14th Station – Jesus’ Body is Placed in the Tomb

Leader: Jesus’ body is placed in the tomb.
All: Holy Jesus, we cry out to you.
Leader: Jesus, your body was wrapped hastily. They made plans to come back and take care of your empty body. It was all so quick, there was hardly any time to cover you in linens. But one thing was offered where the time wasn’t: Joseph gave you his own tomb.
All: Lord, when they buried you, they shared as much as they could, from the little time they had, to the tomb. Although it was an unworthy burial for the Son of God, they tried to honour you. When we pass by cemeteries, help us in remembering and honouring those we see. We will send up a prayer for their souls as you would want us to do.
All: Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…
Leader: Jesus’ body is placed in the tomb.
All: Have mercy on our souls. Amen.
